Fishing at Parr Shoals Reservoir, South Carolina
The reservoir is accessed from two landings off Broad River Road, outside of the Town of Pomaria (Newberry County). Cannons Creek Landing has a boat ramp, large parking area, a small picnic shelter and public restrooms. The site has rip rap beginning at the landing area, and works it way around the ½ mile bridge of Broad River Road, over the creek channel. It is not uncommon the find anglers fishing from the rap, most in search of Crappie, Largemouth Bass, Catfish and pan fish . The second access point is Heller?s Creek ramp, again off Broad River Road, about two miles north of Cannons Creek Landing. Heller?s Creek is just a boat landing ramp with limited parking.
Parr Shoals Reservoir Fishing NewsThe important things to remember when fishing the reservoir are that each landing accesses the creek channels to get you to the deep water of the reservoir. Once in deep water, the serious catfish and striper fishing begins. Try to picture both ramp accesses as ?fields?, for the areas until you reach the creek channel and on to deep water are filled with stumps and tree debris. Rule of thumb is to launch larger boats from Heller?s Creek, and shallow drafting boats from Cannons Creek. Pay careful attention to the creek channels. I have seen more jon boats launched from Cannon?s Creek, with outboards ranging up to 40 HP; yet I have also witnessed larger bass boats with outboards in the 150 range, but they are far and few in between. Watch your depth finder and use your trolling motor, fishing is exceptional in these ?field ?areas.
